Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

I purchased this book for an Accounting class I am taking at a local community college. This is a textbook that is published by South-Western which is owned by Cengage Learning. While the Kindle version of the book is fine, the problem lies in the fact that you do not get access to the online material that may or may not be required by your instructor. I contacted Cengage in order to get an access code but was told that I would have to pay 5 to get the code. I purchased this book for 4 so the access code is almost as much as the Kindle book. Technically, this is only 1/2 a book because you only get chapters 1-13. Chapters 14-26 will cost you another 4 on Kindle. The entire print book is 3. So buying the whole book on Kindle will cost you 8 and you will not have the access codes. At this price the access codes should be included in some way. Otherwise, this book should be priced at about without it.

When I contacted Cengage, they tried to blame Amazon for selling it this way. However, Amazon is only re-selling Cengage’s product. I blame Cengage. I contacted Amazon to make them aware of this and they offered to refund my money but I declined. I’m going to keep the electronic version for study but now I will be forced to purchase the access code separately. In fact, the local college bookstores sell a looseleaf version of the book with the necessary access code for 2-2 so I will probably take that route and end up with a print version of the text as well.

My advice is to double check your instructor requirements before buying this book here.

Commentary/Rant: I think it is terrible that the publisher would provide Amazon with these Kindle versions (at these prices) fully knowing the limitations. On top of that, they have the gall to blame Amazon for it. Unbelievable.

While the Kindle version of the book is fine, the problem lies in the fact that you do not get access to the online material that may or may not be required by your instructor. I contacted Cengage in order to get an access code but was told that I would have to pay $105 to get the code. I purchased this book for $114 so the access code is almost as much as the Kindle book. Technically, this is only 1/2 a book because you only get chapters 1-13. Chapters 14-26 will cost you another $114 on Kindle. The entire print book is $183. So buying the whole book on Kindle will cost you $228 and you will not have the access codes. At this price the access codes should be included in some way. Otherwise, this book should be priced at about $39 without it.
